I have this lovely runner in my entrance hall (although this picture doesn't do it justice), but it drives me nuts because it never stays on the padding. I get so tired of fixing this sloppy looking mess! It is so annoying! I literally will straighten it, walk away, and when I come back it looks like this picture. I don't even understand how this happens, but I finally got sick of it! The pad under it is suppose to be non slip, and I paid good money for it, but you can see how well that has worked for me. I had also heard that double stick tape might work, but I never remember that when I am out at the store.
A few weeks ago, I was cleaning out a drawer and found some command adhesive strips. The wheels started turning and I wondered if I might be able to use these to hold the carpet in place.
I took the three strips and spread the out on the padding.
I then just pushed the rug back down over them and walked on it a few times to help it adhere.
Success! It is still holding strong and my runner no longer walks!
Don't you just love when an idea works! :)

Excellent idea and now I'm wondering what things I can fix with some command strips. Thanks for sharing! ~Stacy

Hi Shelly, Thank you for taking the time to pop in from the party! :) I know what you mean about the DUH moment. I only have this one runner because of this problem. Now that I know how to fix it, I can finally get some others.
DeleteOoo....that's a great idea. I wonder if it would work on a larger carpet to carpet rug? I'll have to try it. Visiting from DIY Sunday Showcase
ReplyDeleteHi Erlene,
DeleteI think it would work on something larger, you may just need to use a few more strips. Thank you for stopping over from the party! :)
Oh, I know what you mean about the runner moving. I'm fussing all the time about ours moving and my hubby had the nerve to say that I was the one moving it because I drag my feet when I walk. Ha! I drag my feet trying to keep my slippers on and that has nothing to do with the runner moving. Thanks for the wonderful idea. I just happen to have some extra strips to try this out!
ReplyDeleteHi Gail,
DeleteThe thing about dragging your feet to keep your slippers on cracked me up because I do that all the time too. ;) Let me know if you try it. I would love to hear how it works for you.
Gotta love a product that can actually be used for more than one purpose!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! I love finding new ways to use things. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteGreat tip! I have some "walking rugs" right now! Thanks so much for sharing with the Let's Get Real Party. We hope you'll link up with us again this week.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comment Gaye. I will be back! :)
DeleteWhat a clever solution! So simple yet effective! We actually have some walking rugs in our house so thank you for this tip!
ReplyDeleteHi Ritchil,
DeleteI am so glad that you found this tip helpful! I wish I had thought of it a long time ago! I actually got rid of another rug because it was driving me crazy, and I could have just done this to it and the problem would have been solved! I hope it works for you as well as it did for me! :)
You are using the strips to attach the runner or rugs to what? I know the runner isn't attached directly to the floor with the strips. I'm certain you'll roll your eyes at this question. LOL
ReplyDeleteNo eye rolling here. ;) I attached the runner and the pad together. The pad has rubber on the underside and really hasn't moved since I placed the strips. You are correct nothing is attached to the floor. Doesn't seem to need it.
DeleteAw, thanks for such a rapid reply. Terrific idea, thanks.
DeleteI understand (I think :) ) that one side of the strip will be applied to the runner. What are you putting the other side of the strip onto? Some type of backing? I noticed it's not applied to the floor! Dumb ??, sorry :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. Great idea btw
I'm going to try this with double sided tape since that's what I have in my drawer and I will let you know if that work as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip.
